The best thing you can do in this situation is call your merchant account service vendor and explain the problem. They will arrange for technical support to resolve your issue. Your representative may also be willing to take the credit card information supplied by your customer and run the transaction through for you.
In some cases, you may receive a message back that your customer’s credit card has been declined. Unfortunately, problems of that nature are usually in the hands of the lender that issued the credit card. For the sake of good will, you can call you merchant accounts vendor and ask them to see if anything is wrong with your account or connection. Chances are, you will need to ask your customer to provide another form of payment.
Even though credit card processing can offer a number of advantages for you and your customer, problems can arise. If you know what to expect, you may be able to settle the matter with ease and confidence. Unfortunately, there may be some situations where you may have to ask a customer to leave the store without the items that they wanted to buy.
