Indian Food by regions in Maharastra

Maharastra is one of the largest states of India. In fact before the separation of Gujrat, it was the largest state of India. The Indian Cuisine in Maharastra is largely influenced by the environment, both social and geographical. The people are well known for their hospitality and they are fond of feeding people.

Presentation of Indian Food in Maharastra has taken an aesthetic form. It adds an extra glamour to the feasts. Guests sit on floor rugs or red wooden seats. They eat in silver or metal thalis and bowls placed on a raised “chowrang” that is a short decorative table. The thalis or plates are decorated with colors called rangoli. There is also a specific order of serving food.

Local papad and spicy hot fish are the main delicacies. On the other hand sugarcane juice and jaggery are the specialties in South Maharastra.

In Pune you will find missal, thalipeeth, puri bhaji and dalimbi while curries, pulav and sweets are specialties of Nagpur. Kolhapur specializes in Indian Chicken Recipes and Aurangabad has the priorities of Mughal dishes that they have inherited since the time of the last great Mughal, Aurangzeb.
